Abstract: This work surveys literature mostly from the U .K. on the use of Information Technology (I.T.) in History of teaching. It outlines the rationale behind the official introduction of Information Technology in the British National History Curriculum. On the basis of the experiences elicited fron1 the above mentioned survey of literature, and from the data collected from a locally conducted questionnaire, this work throws light on fundamental principles and basic issues in History teaching, on the attitudes of history teachers towards the use of new technology and on the possible ways by which Information Technology can contribute in the curriculum of History education in Malta It also presents brief but important comments on one of the new innovations in Information Technology ie. CD-ROM and its" immediate possible applications in History of Teaching. From all the issues and arguments tackled this work attempts to derive conclusions so as to suggest possible ways by which further innovations in our methodology of History teaching may be brought about diligently so as to avoid hasteful steps and thus a possible premature abortion of this intonational Information technology oriented trend which has effective learning potential
