Abstract: An attempt is here made to discover and analyse the cognitive level of written tasks assigned to Form I Junior Lyceum and Area Secondary School pupils. The study compares the cognitive level of tasks given in the different schools, in the :following subjects Mathematics, Science, Maltese, English , History, Social Studies and Religion. This dissertation has tried to throw light on how written tasks might improve pupils' learning experiences.
