Abstract: The first part of this dissertation (pp. 1-25) briefly outlines the history of Ecclesiology from the biblical notion of 'Ekklesia' to the Fathers of the Church to Medieval theologians, through the turmoil of the Reformation, to the Tridentine and Post-Tridentine periods, up to our own days. A special chapter is devoted to the image of the Church as 'The People of God'. The second part (pp. 27-12), contains an analysis and discussion of the results or a survey carried out among 200 Pifth-Ponaers attending Government Schools in Malta. The aim of the survey was to gauge 'the students' attitude to the Church as reflected (a) in their general notion of 'Church', (b) in the things they admire or resent in and about the Church, and (e) in their sense of belonging to the Church. Suggestions for the teacher or Religion are included, where relevant, in the fifteen sections each dealing with the students' answers to the corresponding fifteen questions of the Questionnaire used in the survey.
