Abstract: My work forms part of a project on Maltese Literature for Children, started in 1978 - 79 by former postgraduate students pursuing a one year Course for a Teacher's Certificate in Education. My research is mainly on Maltese Literature for Children in Broadcasting programmes. This study has three main aspects: namely (1) a general information on children's broadcasting in Malta, including programmes in Maltese and in English ; (2) a compilation of scripts found at the School Broadcasting Unit. These scripts were the main source of information to acquire first hand knowledge about broadcasting. In the first classification, I copied the number, the date, the name of the scripts together with the Department responsible for such Broadcasts and the class/ classes of Primary Schools for whom these programmes were broadcasted. These are copied exactly as they appear in the official files at the School Broadcasting Unit. In this chronological classification, I also included under letter (b) the name of the literary content and its author, and under letter (c) my personal comments on the content of every script. In the second classification, I have classified the scripts under (a) poetry) (b) prose (c) drama and also according to various themes, for example: nature, animals, religion, general knowledge, history, etc. The third classification includes scripts by author. and the fourth classification shows children's writings which were also included in these broadcasts. These classifications enabled me to find out which themes were frequently used, which authors were selected, which programmes were repeated and for how many times, and which 1 genre' was most popular - poetry, prose or drama. These three classifications form the main part of this dissertation. The last part includes my comments and my suggestions for future broadcasting programmes. In the appendix, I included an index of the scripts and other work by Ġużi Mallia, a well known script writer, as well as photostat copies of some pictures and photographs of historical importance in the field of broadcasting.
