History as an adult study : an investigation

Abstract

This work is about the adult interest in history and particularly Maltese history. The main areas of investigation consisted in evaluating and analysing the type of history presented through the main means of communications. These included the broadcasting mediums, films and printed material. The latter contained various newspapers and periodicals as well as books. A survey was devised in order to indicate the main trends in historical interest among the general public. It was used as a tool to complement the above topics and to provide statistical evidence to supplement the major characteristics which emerged from investigating these topics. Malta having become a major tourist resort justified the evaluation of to what degree Maltese history helped this sector. To accomplish this a second survey was set up through which the tourist's views vis-à-vis various Maltese historical aspects were determined. In all the topics covered, deficiencies were pinpointed and recommendations were put forward. Hopefully these if taken up can improve the present situation.
