Abstract: This study deals with Maltese literature and other writings for children published in some Maltese newspapers up to the year 1946. My field of work is based on three newspapers, from which I have collected useful material after intensive research at the Malta National Library. The newspapers are Lehen is-Sewwa which started its publication in 1928; Li Scular, a children's paper which only survived during 1933; and Young Malta, a paper for children and the young, published between the years 1943 - 1946. This work starts with a detailed introduction. This is followed by an extensive analytical study: (i) the "Children's Page" and other articles suitable for children in Lehen is-Sewwa, which in turn has been divided into three main sub-sections; (ii) the Children's paper Li Scular; and finally (iii) Young Malta. In each of the three basic studies, I have included background information, classifications of several themes of the dispersed material, including an analytical study with reference to the primary sources and personal comments. I have also commented on the vocabularly and the ortography used by different newspapers. I have also included a list of references at the end of each main sub-section, a conclusion and a bibliography.
