Abstract: Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD) - dyslexia, affect the whole school experience of children since literacy skills are essential for all school learning. This in tum may have a less positive impact on children's personal and social development (PSD). This study is an attempt to identify and describe the factors that modify the impact of SpLD on children's PSD. A qualitative multiple case-study design was adopted. Participants consisted of six boys aged 8 - 12 years in one school, who had been identified as having SpLD and were receiving relevant services. Semi-structured interviews were held with the children, their parents and their teachers. Observations were held during lessons and break time. A qualitative analysis of data revealed that the impact of SpLD on each child's PSD was related to the presence of the following modifying factors: teacher and other school support, peer support and parental involvement together with early identification and awareness of the children's SpLD. The aforementioned environmental factors can either lessen or increase the negative impact of the children's SpLD on their PSD.
