Consequently stress is made on the importance of educating Maltese women for the benefit of the whole nation. The authors, in chapter 1, question the feasibility of the materials, methods and settings of the adult education provision for women. Chapter 2 focuses on the Maltese Adult Literacy Campaign. Chapters 3 & 4 deal with the origin and development of the Maltese Literacy Campaign, with special reference to the content, method and organisational factors. Focus is made on women and their needs. The last chapter deals with the shortcomings actual literacy campaign. A survey conducted amongst of the adult learners has helped the authors to propose reforms in this campaign.
