Abstract: This study is based on the assumption that Action Research is an approach to improving education through change. It encourages teachers to be aware of their own practice, to be critical of that practice and to be prepared to change it. Our aim is to acquire the skills of becoming reflective practitioners, pose questions and develop the right attitude of changing present practice. Data was collected through sessions of teaching in schools during our third year teaching practice. We had the opportunity to observe each other and give feedback about each other's practice. Other methods of gathering data were keeping journals, children's diaries, tape recordings and videotaping of lessons. We were both placed in the same school which served a population of about 250 students, with the majority of them being considered 'at risk'. A good percentage of the student body came from low-income or single parent families. Behavioural problems were rife and we used an Action Research project to work on children's behaviour. In the six weeks of teaching practice we succeeded in improving children's behaviour through various strategies we adopted. We believe that this project has given us the opportunity to improve our practice by reflecting on our actions. Therefore we acknowledge that Action Research does empower teachers with the ability to change the situation in the classroom.
