Abstract: The writer examines the use of English, Maltese or a mixture of both of these, by 3 groups of Maltese adolescents. These population groups were of different educational levels, and it was the aim of the study to examine what language formats these three groups would mostly adhere to. A theoretical framework, regarding basic theories of language use, as also an overview of some studies concerned with language choice, features in the first two chapters of this dissertation. The core of the study comprises a survey of 15 questions which were put to the 3 groups of subjects in order to establish their language choices.
