Issue Date: 2012
Abstract: In this dissertation I will be dealing with the theme of the Holy Spirit in the Gospel of John, especially in those episodes in which the Holy Spirit features in the life of Jesus Christ. I will give prominence to the first reference to the Holy Spirit in this gospel, namely, when John the Baptist claims to have seen the Spirit descending on Jesus and remaining on him. I will try to show how the Johannine Jesus speaks about the Holy Spirit using the symbol of water or living water. I will delve into this presentation by showing how this idea finds its climax in the cross. Finally, I will present the episode of the giving of the Holy Spirit to the disciples by the Risen Lord.
