This dissertation proposes to study the four one-act plays of ld-Drammi ta' Francis Ebejer, Vol. I, published in 1965. This is the first phase of Ebejer's theatre, but still it preannounces a brilliant future through its revolutionary thematic aspects and the philosophical beliefs expressed and elaborated upon. The plot and the characters on the one hand, and time, place and action on the other, were discussed with reference to ls-Sejħa ta' Sarid, li-Zjara, Bwani and lx-Xorti ta' MamieI. At a later stage, the power of destiny, the eternal triangle, women and their share in life, the use of the telegramme and the figure of the father in society were all commented upon with reference to the one-act plays. It is hoped that enough evidence has been brought forward to prove that Francis Ebejer believes in destiny, in the impact of the past on the present and the future, and in the general inferiority of the woman in the male-dominated world.en_GB
