Aspetti soċjali, psikoloġiċi u folkloristiċi fid-dramm il-Ħadd fuq il-bejt ta' Francis Ebejer

Abstract

This dissertation deals with the play Il-Hadd Fuq il-Bejt by Francis Ebejer. As an introductory step it discusses European, Russian and American drama with special reference to Expressionism, Naturalism and Symbolism as these movements left their impact on Ebejer's play. Then the play itself was dealt with under the social, psychological and folkloristic aspects. This analysis begins with an account of the social life of the Maltese people soon after 1964, when Independence was granted. It is in fact this social atmosphere that is felt throughout the play. Then, as part of the psychological aspect, follows a discussion on the genetic and environmental theories as these realise themselves in the characters. The folkloristic element, with special reference to the Maltese festa, was then discussed. By way of conclusion, it was emphasized that the playwright Francis Ebejer was deeply interested in the social development of his country.
