Abstract: Dun Gorg (1880-1962) is mainly considered as having been a saintly priest who worked within the Maltese culture, by helping people in their spiritual needs. He realised that by teaching, he could effectively reach his aim. He noticed the prevalent ignorance of the time and saw that education was the best solution. The first part of the research concentrated on the retrieval of historical data. This shed light on the type of education which existed towards the end of the 1911 and in the beginning of the 20th century. In the second part of my dissertation I have analysed the various works written by Dun Gorg, in order to identify his philosophical ideas about knowledge, education and teaching. I then looked into how Preca's educational initiatives had a sociological impact on the Maltese society, since Preca did not limit himself merely to writing but also to putting his ideas into practise. It was thus essential to look into Preca's pedagogical ideas. In this regard, I interviewed three people who had experienced Preca's teaching style. A general conclusion to this dissertation is that Dun Gorg was undoubtedly a great teacher who effected the society of his time positively.
