The Maltese islands located in the middle of the Mediterranean sea, saw different cultures to flourish since the beginning of history. The early Christian period although eclipsed by that of prehistory, possesses the elements of great importance. Among them, the first elements which bring proof of the capacity of man in prehistoric material construction, is manifested by the large megalithic temples that are the pride of the two main islands of the Archipelago - Malta. Many archaeologists give their attention to these megalithic constructions. The archaeological wealth of Malta is largely centered on these treasures, whose construction extends over a period of more than two thousand five hundred years. However the Maltese islands are distinguished by other archaeological interest. The early Christian period although eclipsed by that of prehistory nonetheless has elements of great importance.en_GB
