Abstract: Epigenetics is defined as 'somatically inheritable changes that are not accompanied by alterations in DNA sequence'. DNA methylation, histone modifications and non-coding RNAs are all epigenetic mechanisms. Epigenetic aberrations (or epimutations) have been found to be responsible for carcinogenesis. The research of these epimutations is providing a platform for their application in cancer diagnosis, prognosis and therapeutics.
