Abstract: | In many ways the 'new' economy is the 'old' economy with the difference that the latter was rapidly revolutionised by the application of information and communications technologies. By now the majority of the readers of this thesis should have experienced first hand the revolution brought about by the Internet in the way in which people communicate and interact. The Internet is increasingly becoming an infinite gateway through which information is diffused on a wider spectrum increasing the probability of the absorption of such information. As a result of today's rapidly changing business environment, the fervent reader can virtually enter in a bookshop, choose the book he requires and effect payment from the comfort of his own house. Similarly, a person can also correspond instantaneously with friends, relatives, or business associates overseas at minimal cost. |
