Abstract: There are various small island states but most of them are located in the Caribbean, the Pacific Ocean and the Indian Ocean Regions. This dissertation will focus on these regions of the world. Many of these have been colonised by either Britain or France. The Netherlands and Portugal have also been colonial powers of some small island states. The USA, Germany and Italy can be considered as latecomers on the colonial scene. It is to be expected that colonial powers have a major influence on the cultures of the colonies and therefore an investigation as to whether this influence extended to religion would be of great interest.
