Abstract: Giovanni Pietro Agius De Solandis was born on 31st October 1718 and died in 1770. He compiled a dictionary of encyclopaedic dimensions in five volumes amongst other works. He was a savant, a linguist and and a prolific writer. He had varied interests, among them numismatics and archaeology played a prominent part. He carried on prolonged correspondence with various foreign scholars, both in Italian and French. He sometimes sought information through correspondence from other scholars abroad.
