Abstract: Chapter One : The Model: Input-Output analysis. The main purpose of this chapter is to supply some quantitative insights into the employment potential of the Maltese economy. This chapter describes the model in brief which is used in applying input-output techniques to employment behavior, in later chapters. Chapter Two : Employment Distribution per Sector. In this chapter, the I - O method discussed above will be applied to study the employment aspects of the Maltese economy in 1974. A distinction between the direct and indirect employment generation is given, on the employment inverse, 1 (I - A)-¹ of 1974. Finally on the ceteris paribus assumption a computation is performed on a hypothetical increase of £M1 million per sector in final demand which would have alleviated the critical unemployment problem of the Maltese economy. Chapter Three : The Complexity of the Maltese Economy, A Comment on the Output Inverse 1974. Before commencing to apply several experiments with the input-output employment inverse of 1974, it was felt appropriate to outline the economic interlaredness of the Maltese economy system working upon the notion of complexity. An economy during its process of economic development is expected to become more 'complex' and that complexity is an integral part of a highly developed country. The measures of this concept are all based on the input-output table, and as such is discussed herein with the empirical results extracted from the Maltese data.
