Abstract: The Sicilian Baroque style came to fruition during a major surge of rebuilding following a massive earthquake that hit the island on the 11th of January 1693. Thereafter, Sicily was engaged in an intense reconstruction phase. Rosario Gagliardi was a Sicilian architect that participated in this reconstruction phase by contributing with his innovative designs. In Sicily it is common to find churches with the belfry surmounting the central pediment, the tower fa9ade. The origins of this particular facade will be investigated and an attempt will be made to identify social, political and economical factors that might have influenced its development.
