Abstract: The concept of man's estrangement and the doctrine of the Christ addresses Tillich's field of research in the relationship of religion to existence. The dissertation investigates the importance of the method of correlation within the human-divine encounter. The search methods concentrate primarily on Tillich's published books especially the three volume Systematic Theology (1951-1963). Chapter one presents a profile of Paul Tillich (1886-1965). Chapter two views Tillich's philosophical and theological foundation. Chapter three introduces the Apologetic Theology in "Being and God". Chapter four delves deeper into the Existential Theology and the quest of the New Being. Chapter five explores Tillich's Christology. The Conclusion expounds the Apologetic Theology as the concept of man's estrangement and sets a critique of Tillich's Theology of Consciousness. The research shows his contribution to the quest of seeking answers in postmodern times.
