Abstract: "All Persons are equal before the law and are entitled without any discrimination to the equal protection of the law. In this respect the law shall prohibit any discrimination and guarantee to all persons equal and effective protection against discrimination on any grounds such as race, color, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status." International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) On 28 September, Likud party leader and Member of Knesset (MK) Ariel Sharon toured the Haram al-Sharif compound. Over the course of the next two days, "Israeli" security forces killed and injured tens of Palestinian worshippers and demonstrators throughout the Occupied Territories in clashes. Following these events and a call for a general strike by the High Follow-up Committee for the Arab Citizens in "Israel" ('High Follow-up Committee') on 1, 2 and 3 October, Palestinians citizens in "Israel" demonstrated in massive numbers in Palestinian towns and villages throughout the country. During street demonstrations from 29 September to 8 October, "Israeli" police shot 13 Palestinian citizens of "Israel" to death and injured hundreds more using live ammunition, rubber-coated steel bullets ('rubber bullets'), and tear gas.
