Abstract: Location-Based Services (LBS) designate any service that uses or provides location information. LBS refers to the capability of finding or estimating the geographical position of a mobile station (MS) within a mobile network, and subsequently provide services based on that location information. Several types of products based on the availability of location information, already exist, or could be implemented in the near future. Notwithstanding the fact that these types of products frequently raise legal issues related to subscribes' rights for privacy, and thereby hindering their spread, LBS are increasingly being considered to be key in several mobile networks' strives to create a portfolio of products that maximises revenues, improves customer loyalty and reduces churn.
