Abstract: The medieval troglodyte history of Cave-dwelling in Malta has still to be written. The purpose of this long essay is to make a valid contribution to the filling up of this vacuum by attempting a survey of five of the most significant late medieval troglodytic settlements. The sites whose measured drawings are being produced for the first time are: Ghar il-Kbir Latnija Ghar ta' San Pietru ..- Ghar ta' San Niklaw Ghar ta' San Brinkaw - This work would not have been possible without the research into many different aspects of this field, carried out over the past years, by a restricted group of Maltese and foreign scholars. Their contributions are scattered in books, newspapers and journals.
