Abstract: The purpose of this dissertation is to study the insertion of particular architectural elements during the post-war era, within an urban context in Malta. The city of Valletta will be taken as the urban space within which these successive insertions will be examined. These insertions will range from simple architectural features to whole building blocks. The insertions will be analysed against their historical and economic background, in the light of their contribution or otherwise to the aesthetics of the streetscape and 3-dimensionality of the urban space. Several sources, old survey sheets and technical design drawings, photographs and literature, both local and foreign will be consulted. Oral information will also be obtained through interviews, etc. These sources will be utilized to critically comment upon the insertions under study and determine their degree of success within their urban space.
