The media is the sole source of information for the large majority of the public on the illicit drug situation. This study will examine to what extent the treatment of drug-related stories in local newspapers reflect the current situation, and whether the picture depicted by the media mirrors the different realities associated with narcotics. The study is based on qualitative and quantitative analysis of newspaper content, in terms of interdiction, reports, interviews and other newspaper material. Data collected will be analysed and then dissected through in- depth interviews with main players in these fields in order to obtain different and comprehensive perspectives. The conclusions of the study should enable one to assess whether the local print media coverage reflects the current situation and different perspectives on the drug problem.en_GB
