Abstract: This dissertation initially set out with the following question: what is the situation concerning censorship in mainstream media in Malta? The media selected were television, radio, newspapers, cinema, and the importation of DVDs and magazines. It focused on areas such as duties, problems, the EU, freedom of expression, the introduction of new technologies, censorship as opposed to freedom of expression and the relationship between censorship and society. Through an investigative study, which included interviewing some of the main stakeholders involved in censorship, a detailed account was drawn up. The findings were then analysed and compared so as to display a picture of the censorship situation in Malta.
