Abstract: Ornament in architecture. Why? The reason for which I chose this topic arise from the differences that I find between the kind of architecture we students propose at University and that which prevails today in the Maltese environment. It is not so an easy task to outline these differences but one thing that I think all would agree upon is the difference in attitude taken towards ornament. At University, ornament is rejected and considered irrelevant to architecture, but one cannot say the same for many buildings that are being built today, This is true especially with domestic buildings, where stone-cut ornaments are always present on a facade of a building.
