Abstract: As a student of architecture I have come to appreciate the power of communication in order to convey ideas and concepts. Yet while such communication is possible with people of similar professional background, dialogue with people outside the field is somewhat harder. This has made me question whether architectural literacy is essential for the public to make sound judgements about architecture. This work concentrates on the importance of education as a tool in understanding the importance of conserving the past for future generations without restricting the creative potential of contemporary architects. Thus this study assesses the way innovatively designed buildings are perceived by society, the importance of architecture as a means to convey society's perception of ideals, the architect's role in the process of such transmission and the importance external factors would have in this respect.
