Abstract: In the literature of twentieth century European nationalism little reference is usually made to intra-European colonial nationalist opposition to Imperial domination, the best exponents of which were italianita' nationalism in Malta, the enosis movement in Cyprus and Irish quests for self-determination. In perceptions of nationalism there is also a tendency to assume a certain linearity . between its liberal and integral varieties which, in these cases, is generally inapplicable.
