Abstract: Mortar may be said to be a good mixture of a binding agent with sand and water; the constituents are mixed thoroughly in the right proportions until a paste with the adequate consistency, and a required resistance when hardened, is obtained. Hence, mortar is a conglomerate where the inert constituents are of a less importance; in particular when cement is used as the binding agent, mortar may be considered as a micro-concrete product. In many occasions, most of the problems related to concrete technology may be applicable to mortars. In fact, it may be said that the main constituent of the mass is identical in the two cases that is the binding agent is a paste which binds a mineral which in this case consists of sand.
