Abstract: Energy efficiency is not one of the main priorities of local building design. In view of the fact that current building regulations date back to 1880, the recent attempts to introduce modern Building regulations in line with the requirements of the local construction industry is a valid step at improving the current situation. The assessment of the stipulated Requirements for Part Six - Conservation of Fuel and Power of the Draft Building Regulations is the subject of this dissertation - a typical residential building type - the row house being used as the model on which the effects of the proposed requirements are assessed. Measures for further improvement of the stipulated requirements are also suggested through a comparison of local proposals with foreign energy standards currently being developed.
