Interim report on the financial and economic structure of the Maltese islands : presented to the Prime Minister of Malta

Abstract

I am enclosing herewith my Interim Report as a result of my first visit to Malta. When I left Malta I had not been quite sure whether it would be necessary for me to furnish a forma 1 Interim Report and, for various reasons, I should have preferred not to do so, as. although I am quite definite about my broad conclusions, there is a good deal in the constituent detail which I should have liked to check up on further. In the course of my discussions here, however, it became quite clear to me that there ought to be a formal Report on record. It is quite possible, for example, that Members of Parliament here will ask if a formal Report has been made and desire to see copies. I presume further on your side that you may find it essential to have something which you could publish at once. This Report comes to you with my most sincere good wishes for your future success. It has been a very great satisfaction to me that the British Government has agreed so promptly to take definite action and I would like to say again how immensely helped I have been in my negotiations here by the fact that your Government had agreed to put forward the Budget proposals which I thought right without nm king any prior conditions about getting support from the British Government. I told you at the time how much I appreciated this action on your side and I can only repeat that it has made all the difference
