Abstract: This research aims to define the mega event and, additionally, tries to understand both the positive and negative impacts that are felt by the hosting community. Particular focus was given to the economic, socio, environmental and territorial impacts. This research will specifically delve deeper into the planning and execution of Expo 2015 in Milan. In the literature review, after a brief overview of the origins of the mega event, secondary data was analysed in order to obtain a general idea about the impacts that such an event can cause. Furthermore, in the case study of Expo 2015, certain environmental, social, economic and territorial aspects were analysed from the available data. Although this is a current event, the researcher looked at the impacts, which have already occurred during the planning stage, and possible future impacts that can only be forecasted. One has to point out that since this is a current theme, most of the data was taken from websites and newspaper. Because of this, the researcher found it necessary to interview eight prominent stakeholders. Therefore, a qualitative research was conducted. It was evident in the analysis section that despite the various negative impacts, in terms of visibility, the city of Milan gained further exposure on a global level.
