The aim of this research was to study the impact of foreign workers in Malta’s hospitality industry. The researcher was interested in exploring if foreign workers are either a liability or asset and examined this argument from the point of view of 7 employees from one resort working in the same front office department. A qualitative approach was chosen, and data collected via seven semi-structured interviews featuring an understanding of the impact. Moreover, the relationship between wages, job satisfaction and education were explored. Through respondents’ answers, it was concluded there is not much of a relationship between education and wages. The data also indicated that there was a general consensus regarding the importance of customer satisfaction. In addition, the development and current situation of the tourism industry in Malta and Poland was reviewed. Alongside these reviews, the importance of skills and training was analysed. Training was found to be lacking at the resort but identified as a very important factor. Several recommendations and suggestions are put forward namely, restructuring the education system in order to enhance training and skills, reconsidering the level of wages in the industry and have resorts invest more in training its employees to re-prioritise customer satisfaction over profit making.en_GB
