Abstract: Dispute over in-situ concrete strength is not uncommon, and may lead to the requirement of cores to be extracted from the member in question. The interpretation of core strength results requires the application of a number of correction factors in order to convert it to an equivalent cube or cylinder strength. Tests were carried out on cores extracted from cubes made from four concrete mixes, each with a different maximum aggregate size; 10mm, 12.5mm, 19mm, and 25mm. The extracted cores all had a diameter of 105mm. The maximum aggregate size for all mixes was therefore within the limit stipulated by (EN 12504-1:2009) and (ASTM C42/C42M-03) which state that the maximum aggregate size should not exceed one third of the core diameter.
