Abstract: Agriculture has always been on important sector of the Maltese economy and its potential is considered to be e viable source of diversification. While admitting that industrialization is the number one pillar of the economy, the development of the agricultural sector is a must, If we are to change the structure of the island 's economy from one dependent on a military base to an industrial one. This need is felt more strongly when one considers that in addition to local consumers Malta has a flourishing tourist industry. The fact that we lack natural resources makes it exigent for us to exploit the available assets such as climate and the fertile though limited land.
