Abstract: Management Accounting is a relatively new concept, in the development of the accountant's functions. A sound management information system is generally found to be the key to effective decision-making, especially for the purpose of planning and control, and the accountant acts as the supplier of information to the management team of which he forms a vital part. It has been as yet unknown to what extent management accounting techniques have been adopted in Malta's industry. In this paper I have therefore attempted to give a broad view of the development of local industry and the concurrent development of Management Accounting therein. Throughout the dissertation I have had to limit my analysis to a sample of Maltese Industry, but which was as representative as possible. Most of the historical data relating to the development of the Accountancy profession in Malta could only be obtained by word of mouth owing to the lack of published data.
