Abstract: The dissertation is divided into five chapters and, its purpose is to find out the impact of emigration on the labour market during the period 1960-1980. Chapter 1, the introductory chapter deals with the basic causes of emigration together with Malta's pattern of emigration. Chapter 2 then analysis the effect of emigration on the size, growth and structure of the Maltese population. Chapter 3 gives a brief description of the labour market and the labour force and it determines the effect of emigration on the labour force. Chapter 4 examines the occupational characteristics of the migrants and size of the migrant labour force and analyses the effect of emigration on the size and quality of the Maltese labour force. Finally, Chapter 5, which is the concluding chapter, summarizes the findings and results of the study.
