Abstract: While acne affects the majority of adolescents, it also affects a significant number of adults. Although the medical aspect of acne is well documented, qualitative studies concerning the psychological and social impact of acne are not as common. This study sought to investigate the psychosocial impact that acne has on young adult females in Malta, looking at the experiences of young women and how acne affects their life on psychological level dealing with emotions, self image and esteem and on a social level involving relationships, communication and their lifestyle in general. Using in depth semi structured interviews and Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis with a sample of 5 participants, six themes emerged from the analysis dealing with the participants' personal, social and emotional spheres of life, shedding light upon their experience of adult acne. Such results can hopefully help to improve current services and support and provide more insight on this condition.
