Abstract: As the vehicles on the road increase, so do the parking problems. This is becoming a serious problem everywhere, especially in Malta, which is such a small island with a large density of vehicles. In this project, the parking problem of the University of Malta is addressed. A point-based parking reservation system was investigated and a prototype application was developed. This research aims to conduct questionnaires to obtain the perspective of the students, staff and visitors on the current parking system and their view on the proposed system. This would also help to come up with the point-based system along with the research on several similar parking systems. The literature review and the technology overview would be thorough to obtain knowledge on how a parking reservation system works, the different components it entails and the various considerations that have to be made. Alongside the contribution of a literature and technology review on this subject, a prototype of the system will be given as an application, which enables users to log in and book an available parking spot by giving a specific date, duration, location and times of arrival and departure. This prototype would help the UoM if it were to be actually implemented by reducing the parking searching times for students as well as be of a benefit to the environment as well since there would be a reduction in pollutant emissions in the air.
