Abstract: Relatively few studies have attempted to record the impact of child sexual abuse on adolescent identity development. This dissertation tackles current knowledge concerning the course and significance of identity development through adolescence. Following this process, an outline of the consequence(s) for adolescents in forming a sense of identity after a childhood trauma such as sexual abuse is conferred. A novel conceptualisation is consequently created as a result of the link introduced within these two diverse areas of study. Current social work intervention in Malta in this field is then presented through the findings' analysis and finally, recommendations that could aid social workers, psychologists, youth workers, and school counsellors working directly with adolescent survivors of child sexual abuse are suggested.
