This study examined the experiences of women who suffer from lupus (SLE) in Malta. The aim of this study is to explore the past and present experiences of women with lupus and to seek to understand the way they perceive their life with lupus. In-depth semi structured interviews were conducted with five women who have lupus. Using thematical analysis it was found that women with lupus have adjusted and accepted their disease and integrated it as part of their life. Several aspects of quality of life where impaired by lupus such as ability to work, independence and ability to be active. However the women overcame their difficulties through praying and positive reframing. Social support was found to be a contributing factor which helped the women cope better with their disease. The results suggest that women with lupus endure a lifetime of struggles. The women perceived themselves to have coped well with their disease despite their limitations.en_GB
