Abstract: The study investigates the attitudes of Maltese youngsters towards the influence of language on television. To obtain the information of this study, 100 Maltese participated in this research. The study is based on data elicited from a group of 50 males and 50 females. They were specially chosen to constitute a good sample. They were equally chosen from the Southern Harbour, Northern Harbour, South Eastern, Western and Northern Districts. The respondents were asked to fill in a questionnaire. The questionnaire attempts to investigate the language usage in Malta and the respondents' views and preferences in their viewership of television. For a better understanding of the current linguistic situation in Malta, the initial chapter to this dissertation is dedicated to the historical background of the language development in Malta. Focus is given to the development of the Maltese language as well as the introduction and the growing importance of the English language. It includes a section of the dominance of the Italian language which still prevails on the Maltese islands.
