The fifth anniversary of the launch of CounterText: A Journal for the Study of the Post-Literary invites retrospection, and offers us, the journal’s editors, an obvious opportunity to take stock. It’s a useful exercise to conduct in relation to any ongoing publishing project, but it is perhaps particularly important in the case of CounterText. One of the distinctive characteristics of this journal is that it comes with its own conceptual framework – that of the countertextual and the post-literary – and it encourages (without obliging)contributors to work with that framework to help better understand the contemporary condition of the literary. From the outset this conceptual framing was intended to focus creative-critical attention without being restrictive or prescriptive. Indeed, both the terms the countertextual and the post-literary have been presented at various points across the journal’s editorials as being ever-evolving and welcoming of differing adaptations and nuancing.en_GB
