Abstract: This dissertation discusses the ongoing 'Special Relationship' between Britain and USA. It will discuss the origins of the relationship back in the beginning of the twentieth century until the contemporary relationship. The main focus of the dissertation will be regarding the relationship of President Bush with Prime Minister Blair. The 'Special Relationship' has always been a relationship of mutual interests which is highly evident throughout the twentieth century. However, it can be noted that if the American President and the British Prime Minister do not have a close personal relationship, the 'special relationship' would cool off. The relationship between George W. Bush and Tony Blair was a particular one. It can be seen from their very first meeting that they would establish a close relationship. The September 11, 2001 events continued to strengthen their relationship with Blair promising 'unconditional support.' The two leaders continue to cooperate over the war on terrorism and the war in Iraq. This 'Special Relationship' cost the Prime Minister his popularity in Britain as well in Europe and a wave of anti-American feelings for President Bush. The dissertation will be concluded by giving prospects for the future of the relationship now that a new Prime Minister is in power in Britain.
