Abstract: It is common among historians to stress the period in which they specialize. All periods and epochs of history are important but it may be true that one period is of more significance than another. British rule in Malta lasted for one hundred and sixty four years, and was almost a continual political struggle for constitutional advancement. It is the aim of the present writer to attempt to give a clear interpretation of what happened in the island in the island during only the first twenty four of these years, without which however it is impossible to understand the subsequent course of Anglo-Maltese political relations [...]
