Abstract: For many believers Scripture is an agent of spiritual growth and conversion in people's lives. Scripture remains a major influence in the shaping of society and culture. The point of departure of this dissertation is based on the conviction that Scripture has the potential to guide young people as they struggle to cope with the challenges and pressures of life. However, not all young people are aware or interested in this tremendous power of Scripture. The aim of the research was therefore to find out what attitude fourth and fifth formers have towards the Bible and whether they accept a biblical view of human life. The research was carried out by means of a questionnaire, which was distributed to over one thousand fourth and fifth formers attending both State and Church schools in Malta. The answers which they gave throw light on how parents, pastoral carers and teachers can better equip themselves in their ministry. Finally, the dissertation gives concrete suggestions for exploring Scripture with young people both in teaching situations at school as well as in the parish and in religious organisations.
