For many centuries, women were usually considered as second class citizens. Aquinas even sustained that since the female soul lacks the physical perfection of the male body it must be both different and deficient. Thanks to a deeper understanding of Christ's attitude and preaching, today we respect the dignity of women much better. Throughout the ages, women themselves contributed to the emancipation of their gender. The first part of this work will be dedicated to a review of philosophical and theological position or the issue. The contemporary scene with its false concepts, values, culture and official church documentation will also be reviewed. In the second part I will deal with a few examples of women of the Sacred Scripture that show how they responded to God's call.en_GB
